Travelling Internationally with Kids

This post has been a long time coming, it kind of got forgotten about.  We didn't get to take a lot of photos of the trip over but remembered on the flight from Vancouver to Montreal.  Its a just shy of five hour flight.  Somewhere there is a video of us starting out.

Little kids in big seats.  They can get use to this style of travel.
They look pretty fresh and relaxed don't they?  Given we'd just done SYD-YVR and that's 15hrs plus a stint in the lounge, I was pretty impressed with my little guys.

See what sort of photos you get of the rocky Mountains in BC when the five year old takes them.
We later worked out he couldn't see out the window properly and knew he wasn't allowed to stand on his seat!

By the time I worked it out and took over duties, we'd missed the Rockies but the snow covered plains were pretty impressive as well.

This is what happens when you watch the Smurfs five times coming over!  She slept the whole trip.

Hey Air Canada - you did well, he liked his meal!

Just being silly for Mums photos.

Now you are being really silly and I'll put the camera down!

All in all, I was pretty proud of my little crew, they did well.  While it was nice to get some positive feedback, I think I was happy enough to have survived the trip without any major meltdowns or disasters, so the rest was just icing on the cake.

One last piece of advice, if a kid says they feel sick, do not respond with "No you don't", that just wastes time, find a sick bag fast!

View from my Window, bye bye snow

One last picture of the last big snowfall a few weeks ago.

Just Wandering Around

Little feet in sparklie shoes.....

Victoria Park

American Falls

Love this pic

American Falls

My favourite pic and the best view.

What is it with kids and walking along stuff?
At least she didn't want to cross the Falls on a tightrope!

Looking cas, like you aren't posing???

Kind of blends in with the steps - might need a filter for the camera?

Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa

This is where we stayed, I admit it was the name that got me in.  Fallsview, surely we couldn't go wrong with that for a name!  I also checked it out on the usual blogs and tripadvisor, just to be sure.  I have to say it got a pretty good wrap!  There are two Marriotts right next to each other.  My amazing navigation got us to the right one, okay it was the first one and I jumped out and checked with the valet dude.

It's the one in the middle of the pic.

The check in was great and we scored an upgraded room thanks to John clocking up Gold status.  That was great as we ended up with free Internet and breakfasts.  Lets face it, breaky for five can add up pretty quickly.  The room upgrade itself gave us a gas fireplace, which the kids loved.  Something about being cozy in front of a fire.

As seen here...

There's that view I was talking about!

It had the usual nice looking bathroom, with toiletries that smelt like heaven, okay orange and ginger!

Kids checking out the bathroom, looks like someone is going for a bath!

Nice big comfy bed, shame about the snoring three year old!

Brown Bear liked it.

The Easter Bunny even found us.  Thanks EB!!!

We really enjoyed this trip, so much so we've changed our plans for July and will be coming down from Toronto for an over night trip.  Marineland wasn't yet open for the season, so that's on the list as is the Maid of the Mist, can't miss the classic.  (It was due to open about three days after we departed - nothing like good timing???)

So having said that, we'll be back.

Sunrise

Sometimes its worth getting up early to greet the day......is this not beautiful???

Cross that one off the Bucket List

Okay sometimes I may not have the best ideas but I do hit the mark sometimes.  This was one of them!

Admittedly driving over 600km in a day with three small children to somewhere you've never been, on the other side of the road, in a left hand drive car, with a GPS that doesn't work, doesn't sound all that great but......

When we drove down Falls Ave in Niagara and caught sight of the falls, you could of heard a pin drop and then it was ahhhhh, wow, look at that Mum and all the stress from driving was gone.  Given only moments before I was ready to leave at least two of the three kids on the side of the road

The view from the room was amazing, the website didn't lie.  Check in and all that was a breeze (more about that later), up to the room and ta-da....

Yep - that's the view from our room, not a bad shot even if it is through the window!

I didn't really know what to expect, tourist central, sure, a nice view, got that, but it was the whole (to quote The Castle) vibe!  I loved it.  The kids were amazed and could appreciate the view, right after they checked out the hotel room and put dibs on the beds, each.  (Looks like Daddy Bean and I were going to sleep on the floor).

A big drive does that to you...

We stayed at the Fallsview Marriott.  It can be a bit confusing as there are two Marriotts right next to each other but they are very clear when you book and also on the confirmation.  We were lucky to score an upgrade as someone has gold status - not I, I am pleb (and proud to tack onto he who does have status coat tails).  It also gave us free Internet (great for Skype) and free breakfast.

Happy to be out of the car????

It was well after 6pm when we finally arrived and there was heaps of daylight left, good for burning a little energy off.

Ooohhh!

So hows that for an intro to our trip?  I'll write the rest over the next few days...we have lots of photos to share.

Glasshouse

There are all kinds of little gems around here.  Who would have thougth in the middle of winter that there was this little piece of paradise.
